Hawaii Travel: Best Lanai Vacations

The island of Lanai is a relatively new addition to the tourism industry, yet has quickly taken hold as a prime luxury destination. Formerly known as the Pineapple Island because of its acres of pineapple plantations, the island is now more aptly referred to as the Secluded Island. For years the island was relatively unknown to those visiting the Hawaiian Islands, as its main economy was agriculture.
Most Hawaiians considered Lanai a waste of time for tourists as it had little to offer in terms of amenities and paled in comparison to the more equipped islands of Maui and Oahu. However, this lack of attention seems to have benefited the island today as it remains sparsely inhabited and enjoys miles of empty land. Today, you can take long walks along empty beachfront and tour the highlands in a rented jeep without seeing a soul.
Lanai Vacations for Luxury Travelers
For luxury travelers, the two resort hotels on the island (the Lodge and the Manele Bay Hotel) offer world-class amenities and service. These hotels were constructed only a mere decade ago and feature amenities and services that youd expect from a world-class resort. Vacation packages for these hotels feature exquisite rooms, as well as a plethora of available activities.
Golfers also flock to the island to enjoy two newly designed courses. The Challenge at Manele Bay sits on the cliffs overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean while the Experience at Koloe offers a mountainous course in the central highlands. Both were designed by famous golfers and feature challenging yet beautiful holes.
